Over 1,800 residents will benefit from a new well at Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara, which was constructed at a cost in excess of $47M and will produce 68 cubic meters of water per hour.At the official commissioning of the facility on Saturday, Minister of Housing and Water, Irfaan Ali boasted of the many developments in the water sector within the Region.Minister Alli unveils the plaque at the commissioning of the Well“We have now completed the Vergenoegen treatment facility, and the Tuschen Well is also in its final stage. We also have the Wells at Parfaite Harmonie and Cornelia Ida and works have been ongoing to upgrade network and distribution systems in many communities.”Also in attendance at this significant ceremony were Region Three Chairman, Julius Faerber; Director, Capital Investment and Planning Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI) Ramchand Jailall and Chairman of GWI Board and Private Sector Commission, Ramesh Dookhoo.Minister Ali observed that the establishment of the Well in Cornelia Ida, which will be providing water to other communities including Hague Backdam, was a direct result of Cabinet’s interactions with residents.He stated that the Well was necessary since the previous capacity could not have catered for residents of Hague Backdam and surrounding housing schemes.“Another important aspect of our development work in this region is the interconnection of infrastructure to ensure that we have continuity and we can balance the demand and supply as against infrastructure,” Minister Ali said.Region Three Chairman, Julius Faerber noted that the new facility will increase the flow of water to many homes. Faerber urged residents to monitor the performance of the Well so that water utilised is managed effectively.Chairman of GWI Board, Ramesh Dookhoo,Cheap Jerseys From China, highlighted that GWI will continue to work to improve the supply of water to all Guyanese.He explained that staff will continue to gather complaints from residents and implement measures to correct them.Dookhoo encouraged residents to care the facility, which is a vital asset, since finding maintenance capital for remedial works is a challenge. |
