Motorists in Berbice are angry that some traffic ranks are acting in a manner that leaves much to be desired of the Guyana Police Force.At least three drivers have complained about traffic cops who pull them over for speeding and checking of their documents and then force them to purchase several Bar-B-Q tickets as an alternative to being charged.On Saturday, a driver related that his motor car was pulled over by a traffic rank on the Number 19 Public Road on the Corentyne. The rank greeted the driver and told him that the radar gun clocked him travelling at 83 kilometers per hour in an 80 kph zone.He then invited the officer out of the car and asked him to go next to the traffic police vehicle where he would show the driver the radar’s reading and write the charge.The driver told this newspaper that the officer showed him the radar gun displaying 86 kph and not 83 kph as the officer had initially told him.After several minutes of begging, the driver alleged that he was asked to purchase a Bar-B- Q ticket as an alternative to being charged that afternoon.Drivers have complained that some ranks are forcing drivers to purchase BBQ  tickets for takeaway lunches. They question this new trend of some ranks in the force, especially in Berbice.Motorists have also lamented the displays on the radar guns after ranks pull them over for speeding and question whether some of those readings were genuine.The issue of traffic ranks hiding in bus sheds, under trees and behind lamp posts to catch speeding motorists also came up for discussion with the motorists.
