A seven-member United Nations team is expected to start a two-day visit Monday to assess what Guyana has done to implement measures to fight terrorism.According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the experts from the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate will see several senior government officials as well as other law enforcement officials present during an opening session at the Guyana Police Force Officers Training Centre.A seven-member UN team is coming Monday to assess Guyana’s work on anti-money laundering measures.The Ministry said that visit will see the officials conducting “an assessment of Guyana’s efforts in the implementation of the United Nations Resolution 1373 “Anti-Terrorism: Calling for Suppressing Financing, Improving International Cooperation”.Guyana has been under pressure to update its anti-money laundering laws which force banks and other financial institutions to submit mandatory reports and flag suspicious transactions.However, two critical Bills have been delayed passage in the National Assembly after the Opposition sent it to a special committee to fine tune.
