The A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance For Change (ANPU+AFC) government will be formulating and presenting a National Gender Policy during the course of 2016.This was revealed during the Budget Speech recently presented to the National Assembly by Finance Minister Winston Jordan.He told the House that promoting gender equality has been established globally as a development strategy for reducing poverty levels among women and men, improving health and living standards and enhancing efficiency of public investments.Jordan said that his Government is therefore working assiduously to develop a society in which all girls and boys, women and men live together in safety and harmony, with dignity and mutual respect and are equal partners in the decision-making processes.Minister of Finance, Winston JordanThe Minister said that in this regard, the Government is committed to establishing a national consultative process, to create a national policy on gender and development. He told the House that this will be done to enable all Guyanese to thrive in an environment in which they achieve their full potential.Further, the Minister said that this undertaking is expected to strengthen gender responsive structures, processes and mechanisms supporting development in which both women and men participate equally in the development efforts and have access to and benefit from the utilization of the country’s resources.
