A 53-year-old miner, who plies his trade in Kuru Kuru was yesterday remanded to prison after appearing before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson.It is alleged that on September 12, at Bartica, Michael Garnett of Victoria Road, Sparendaam, had in his possession 1,198 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.Garnett, also know as ‘Constable Garnett’, pleaded not guilty and told the court that he was targeted by the arresting officer. According to Garnett, he and the officer that had charged him have had “problems” in the past.He explained to the court that there were six persons, including himself,Cheap Jerseys From China, in the truck heading out of Bartica.A search was being conducted on the vehicle when the cannabis was found. Garnett further explained that he was the only person of the six individuals who got arrested for the find.“Dey only hold on to me” was Garnett’s plea as he gave his account of the events.The Police Prosecutor, however, told the court that it was customary for vehicles leaving the Bartica area to be searched before proceeding.It was during the routine search that the cannabis was discovered in a bag that the defendant had with him.Strongly denying that the bag was his, Garnett was remanded and is expected to return to court on September 30. |
