Communities must play a crucial role in helping to raise cancer awareness. This is according to President of the Organisation for Social Health Advancement in Guyana (OSHAG), Ms Carol Bagot,Throwback Jerseys, who emphasised during a recent interview that keen attention must be given to breast cancer which has had a troubling impact on the local society.OSHAG, a not for profit organisation, is the brainchild of Bagot, a US based Guyanese. In fact she spoke of plans to conduct demonstrations using a prosthetic breast to help women discern the feel of cancerous lumps in the breast.Consideration for this ambitious project was premised on worrying revelations earlier this year that breast cancer was the most prevalent cancer recorded in Guyana over a 10-year period.Based on a Surveillance Cancer Report unveiled by the Ministry of Public Health,Andre Branch Dolphins Jersey, which examined the prevalence of the various forms of cancer over the period 2003-2012, it was observed that breast cancer accounted for the most cases recorded. Of the 6000 odd cases, more than 1,000 cases were that of breast cancer.
