Claims by Venezuela’s former Foreign Minister,Dennis Byrd Jets Jersey, Jose Vicente Rangel,Jerry Rice Raiders Jersey, that Guyana is complicit in allowing international spy agencies to infiltrate his country (Venezuela) have been refuted by Minister of State, Joseph Harmon. The Minister, at his post-Cabinet media briefing Wednesday, said, “I can categorically say that there is no such training taking place in Guyana, sponsored by the state or by any element of the state. And so the El Nacional,Tom Waddle Bears Jersey, or any newspaper carrying these types of misinformation,Pat Tillman Cardinals Jersey, can quote me directly to say that it is not so”.Rangel claimed that agencies such as the United Kingdom’s MI6, Israeli Intelligence Service and the Central Intelligence Agency,Bob Lilly Cowboys Jersey, are being facilitated by Guyana to infiltrate Venezuela.Minister Harmon recalled that a somewhat similar claim was made decades ago, with Time Magazine saying that Cubans were being massed along the border between the two nations. Then a serving officer in the Guyana Defence Force, Harmon said he was instructed to facilitate a fact-finding trip with one of the United States of America-based magazine’s reporter to visit all of the GDF’s bases at border locations,Marcus Allen Chiefs Jersey, and free access was given,Dermontti Dawson Steelers Jersey, enabling any rank to speak with the reporter to clarify the issue. The issue arose after the GDF decided to discard the use of the traditional beret for jungle hats and caps,Steve McNair Titans Jersey, for ranks based in the interior,Jim McMahon Bears Jersey, thus starting a rumour about the Cubans training ranks at border locations. The recent claim by the former minister of Venezuela was described as another effort to bolster his country’s claims to Guyana’s territory in the face of international condemnation.“People try to justify their actions by declaring these things. We don’t have MI5 in Guyana… we don’t have MI6,” Minister Harmon said.Venezuela has ramped up its claims on Guyana, recently issuing a decree which unilaterally says that parts of the Atlantic Ocean controlled by this country belong to the Spanish-speaking nation also.CARICOM, the US and the United Nations have all come out condemning the stance of Venezuela and asking that the decree be withdrawn.Venezuela withdrew the decree on Monday but issued another toned down one, saying it has rights to patrol its waters. It already signaled the ending of a lucrative oil-for-rice deal that it has with Guyana by November, an apparent retaliation to the claims being rebuffed. |
