One gram of cocaine was the cause of two men being remanded to prison yesterday by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan, when they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.Shemroy Robertson and Odinga ChaseShemroy Robertson, a clothes vendor,Connor Hellebuyck Team North America Jersey, 31,Scott Darling Jersey, who resides at 101 Mandela Avenue, East La Penitence and Odinga Chase, also a vendor,Jared Spurgeon Jersey, 29, from 169 East Ruimveldt Housing Scheme were not required to plead to the indictable charge.The charge read that on January 15,Zach Parise Jersey, last at Princes Street, Georgetown, they had in their possession 1.6 grams of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking. The Magistrate refused bail for the duo and adjourned the matter to February 15.Attorney-at-Law,Nick Foligno Jersey, Mark Conway,Jori Lehtera Jersey, who represented the men made an application for bail citing special reasons. The Attorney said that his clients have never been convicted for any crimes in the past, thus they are not labelled as ‘flight-risks’ and will appear for court on the stipulated date. He also stated that both men have fixed places of abode and will return.Prosecution facts were presented by Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) Prosecutor,Sean Monahan Team North America Jersey, Kunyo Sandiford-Thompson who debated the Attorney’s special reasons while strongly objecting to bail.Sandiford-Thompson argued that no special reasons were put forward by the Attorney. According to her,Cody Eakin Jersey, such offences require special reasons for bail to be considered by the court.The Prosecutor also told the court that investigators were unsure of the address given by Robertson. Ranks conducted a search at the address for the defendant mentioned in the charge but were unable to locate him.According to the Prosecutor,Martin Brodeur Jersey, information given by persons who were arrested at the John F. Kennedy (JFK) Airport late last year, pointed to Robertson being a drug supplier. She further added that these persons are willing to give audio/video testimony against Robertson.The Magistrate upheld the prosecution’s objections and remanded the men. |
