– four heldPolice, working round the clock, yesterday apprehended four suspects in connection with Thursday’s robbery at the M. Ali and Sons Supermarket at Main and Pope Street in New Amsterdam.Following the robbery it was high drama during the night as the police were hot on the heels on the thieves. They set up various dragnets and encountered the men at various periods during the night during which gunshots were exchanged.Police sources said that three of the detained men participated in the attack at the supermarket, during which one robber accidentlyshot another in the hand while trying to shoot a female employee. Kaieteur News understands that the victims positively identified the wounded man, who goes by the name of ‘Shawn.’ He is still at large.One of the men was described as “a known criminal from Berbice,” while two others are said to be from the West Bank of Demerara and the east Coast of Demerara.According to information the robbery was committed by four known bandits, two of whom had entered the supermarket whilst the other two waited outside.After the robbery the men then split up and using bicycles and other means, headed to a house at Stanleytown,John Riggins Redskins Jersey, Berbice, where they quickly changed, boarded a taxi and headed to the car park.The cops also got word that the men had headed to Stanleytown and immediately raced to the dilapidated house where they encountered a man and a woman. Another man, said to be a resident of Melanie Damishana, East Coast Demerara, was also arrested in the vicinity. He told investigator that he did not know the others and had just arrived from Suriname.The police continued their manhunt and condoned off a large area. Around 01:30 hrs yesterday, police encountered two men near Republic Road and Philadelphia.There was brief exchange of gunfire before the men escaped. One was said to be the injured man,Kevin Greene Steelers Jersey, known as ‘Gun Youth’ of 37 Stanleytown, who is alleged to have shot at the police with the stolen 9mm. pistol which belongs to Feroze Ally. The other is said to be career criminal, Anthony Primo, called ‘Dangerous’.Primo is said to be the ring leader while Alexander was the contact man from Berbice.Around 03.00 hrs yesterday, the police later arrested a man,Joe Namath Rams Jersey, who was covered in mud, who was heading into King Street, New Amsterdam. He was found with a .38 snub nose revolver. It had six rounds in the magazine while he had four rounds in his pocket.The suspect was identified as Kerwin Williams, of Wismar, Linden. He reportedly told the police about the planned heist and the movements and getaway plans.Police subsequently arrested another man with a firearm in New Amsterdam.
