After leaving his bench to examine the accused, who was lying on the floor, Magistrate Haywant Ramdhani ordered that Monderson receive immediate medical treatment. He was subsequently taken to the Bartica Hospital before being transferred to Georgetown. But the six accused were all refused bail. Before leaving court,Brad Richards Red Wings Jersey, the captured men insisted that they were innocent and that the police ranks brutalized them and relieved them of various sums of cash.It is alleged that on Sunday,Andre Branch Dolphins Jersey, October 2, 2011, while at Piari  Landing, the accused, while armed with dangerous weapons, robbed  Joy Mathias of $500,000; Kevin Woolford of a boat and outboard engine valued at $3.4M; Eulisa Alves De Bretto of $450,000: Darren Chetram of 41 pennyweights of raw gold valued at $582,000: Saskey Obindranauth of $300,000; Bendita Barado D’oliveria of $500,000; Aversley Santos of $500,000; and Curtis Barnes of $171,000 and a Blackberry phone.Prosecutor Bineashwar Nauth also told the court that Ian Monderson and Aaron Williamson robbed Glendon Fredericks of five pennyweights of raw gold and $845,000 at Looking Glass Falls.Monderson and Williamson were also charged with unlawful possession of a Uzi submachine gun and 21 rounds of 9mm ammunition. The prosecutor objected to bail because of the gravity of the charges, and also explained that police investigation was incomplete. Nauth also suggested that the accused were unlikely to return to court if they were granted bail.Responding to the charges before leaving court, Monderson told the magistrate that he is a dredge owner and that his wife operates a stall in Georgetown. He also claimed that he was shot by police ranks, but prosecutor Nauth said that the accused was wounded during a shootout with the police.Accused Alexander Imhoff claimed that he was beaten in the head and that the police ranks relieved him of $200,000. Eustace Thomas alleged that he was working on the same vessel with speedboat operator Aubrey Kingston (who was among those who drowned at Looking Glass Falls).Thomas alleged that they were attacked by masked men and that the vessel subsequently capsized. They were unarmed having probably disposed of their weapons or lost it when the boat capsized.According to a source, had the police not arrived, they might have starved to death.“They were grateful when the ranks turned up. They (ranks) gave them food, and covered them with sheets,” the source said.Reports reaching this newspaper indicated that the gang was assembled in the city, since all of them gave Georgetown addresses, including Laing Avenue.Barticians were loud in their praise for the hunting party when they returned there around 21:00 hours with the captured bandits. The party comprised ranks from the Bartica Police Station who were led by Officer-in-Charge, Assistant Superintendent Moore and another team from the Tactical Services Unit under the command of a Cadet Officer.“You cannot say that they surrendered because they had nowhere to go. Our boys did a great job,” the source said. The capture of the remaining bandits confirmed that the gang had nine members. On Monday when the police launched their operation they managed to capture three of the bandits. They also recovered the body of another from the river.A day later,Marlon Humphrey Jersey, the badly decomposed bodies of two other bandits surfaced. There are reports that they were buried near where they were found.Kaieteur News understands that the mastermind of the attack was among the first set of bandits captured. He had reportedly given the police an incorrect name. However he was positively identified by two persons who claimed that he had robbed them a little over a month ago in the general area. He, along with the two others who were captured earlier, is expected to appear in court today. On Sunday night, five persons were wounded when a gang of armed bandits raided the gold mining community of Piari in the Puruni River. The gang made off with about $30 million in cash and raw gold during a violent spree that lasted close to three hours. The gang opened fire indiscriminately, while relieving the terrified miners,Deion Jones Falcons Jersey, many of whom were at the Piari Landing where a number of shops are located. The men had also robbed several mining camps along the Puruni River, hours before the Piari Landing attack. But disaster struck when a vessel in which the robbers were fleeing overturned at Looking Glass Falls.
