We have got to do a better job of marketing, and we have to attract investors.”Dr Adams opined that in order to attract investors we have to have sustainable energy, and develop a strong education system, as education is very important, and should therefore be a major part of our strategy.He alluded to the massive brain drain, and said that it was not necessarily a bad thing. The good part is that those persons who would have migrated and developed themselves, both academically and financially, could now return and help to develop the country.He exhorted that people find a way to encourage these people to return, by being aware of these resources which we can tap into.Adams said that he is a big advocate for investors along the Soesdyke/Linden Highway, which has the potential for huge investments.Adams also spoke of the great role that the community has to play in helping to shape the youths, and said that if it weren’t for the people who held his hands, and helped in mentoring him, he could not have achieved all that he has achieved today.Prime Minister Samuel Hinds exhorted Lindeners to reinvent themselves, as “we all have to reinvent ourselves sometimes.”The Prime Minister also alluded to the new opportunities that are now presenting themselves, and urged all to make maximum use of those opportunities, that currently exist in other sectors like agriculture and tourism.Best wishes and congratulations were also extended by Leader of the Opposition Robert Corbin, and Odinga Lumumba among others.The Linden Town Week was officially declared open by Interim Management Committee Chairman, Orrin Gordon, who said that the event was very significant, as it celebrated the fortieth anniversary of Linden achieving the status of township.Some key activities of Town Week included a Gospel Concert last evening, the Miss Big Bold and Beautiful tomorrow, and the Miss Linden Pageant on May 1. All of these events will be held at the Mackenzie Sports Club Ground.Other items on the Town Week calendar are parachuting at Bbayroc on April 29, and the Linden Expo at the Egbert Benjamin Exhibition Centre on April 30 and May 1. The Wismar creole night will be held on April 30, with the Linden fund USA dance scheduled for the same date, on the Christianburg Hard Court.Starting out 15 years ago, as Town Day, the concept which resembles the St Lucian J’ouvert was brought here by popular Linden entrepreneur Norville Fredericks.The idea behind the concept was to celebrate the Town’s anniversary, by showcasing our culture through art, craft and culture for two days. But Lindeners loved and embraced the event so much that the former two days of activities, later stretched into a week.Town Day/Week was later adopted by other municipalities across Guyana.
