An oversight yesterday by officials at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) could have seen a contractor bidding for a contract denied the opportunity to have his tender opened and processed.Interested contractors were requested, as usual, to submit bids to work on various government projects by Monday, in time for them to be publicly opened yesterday and their submitted costs read out aloud before the documents are sent for review by the ministry or other government entity that issued the invitation to tender. After this first step of the tendering process was well underway yesterday morning, an alert employee at the NPTAB at Main and Urquhart streets office saw part of an envelope ‘peeping’ out of the slot through which envelopes with bidding information are deposited to settle in the tenders box.The box, on which is marked ‘Insert Envelopes Here’ is a new one, and apparently has a faulty design that can sometimes cause deposited packages to become stuck just inside the slot instead of sliding down to the bottom for easy retrieval by staff on Tuesday mornings.Fortunately, when the mistake was discovered NPTAB members were at that moment opening tenders for contracts on the same project for which contents of the overlooked envelope were submitted – Supply and Installation of PVC Transmission main: Watooka, Linden,Kyle Korver Hawks Jersey, Region No. 10. This bid was then allowed to join five others vying for the project contract. Also at yesterday’s NPTAB meeting, among the leading bids on Government’s invitations to tender publicly unsealed by the National Procurement and Tenders Administration Board was a bid of $289.3 million to construct roads at Enmore-Hope. The engineer’s estimated cost for this project is $180.4 million. For the Central Housing and Planning Authority projects, there were bids for the construction of roads in Mon Repos, La Reconnaissance; Construction of roads in Enmore-Hope; Construction of roads in Golden Grove-Diamond Place and construction of roads at Haslington, Golden Grove-Hope.There were eight (8) bids for construction of roads at Enmore-Hope.
