MFK building fire…Officials from the Guyana Fire Service are awaiting the Electrical Inspector’s report as the investigation into the fire at the former MFK Trading building now G. Bacchus Enterprise continues.This is according to Fire Chief Marlon Gentle who told this publication yesterday,Martin Havlat Jersey, that most aspects of the investigation have already been completed and his department is now awaiting the report from the Ministry of Public Works,Robert Bortuzzo Jersey, Government Electrical Inspector.On May 26th last, fire fighters were summoned to the Hadfield and High Streets location to put out a blaze which started around 20:00 hours.It was reported that millions of dollars in stocks mainly electrical and other household appliances,Jack Johnson Jersey, which were being stored in the ground and first floors of the four-storey building were destroyed.The other floors along with the items that were stored there also suffered significant water damage as firefighters, employing the state-of-the-art hydraulic lift which is used to fight fires in high rise buildings,Patrik Berglund Jersey, battled desperately to prevent the fire from spreading.When the fire started,Nathan MacKinnon Team North America Jersey, the entire building was shut tight and the firemen were forced to break open the heavy metal shutters as well as glass windows to effectively fight the blaze.The owner was reportedly in Berbice at the time and there was no one with alternative keys.After about 30 minutes of trying to break the locks,Jay Bouwmeester Jersey, the firefighters eventually succeeded in entering the building which by then was completely dark as a result of the electricity supply being disconnected.The firemen,Steve Larmer Jersey, using flashlights, managed to locate where the fire was and began controlling it,Bobby Orr Jersey, before the nearby Ashmin’s Trading could be engulfed. Fortunately,Charlie Coyle Jersey, the blaze was quickly put out and a major disaster was prevented. |
