Food exports…The high cost of air and sea freight for food exporters was raised Friday as shippers and stakeholders met to discuss critical issues facing non-traditional crops. Food exporters, shippers and government officials discuss the high cost of freight and shipping, among other things. The Ministry of Agriculture met with representatives of the Guyana Non-Traditional Agricultural Exporters Association,Throwback Jerseys, the Shipping Association and other private sector representatives at the Ministry.In addition to air and sea freight cost, the transit times to markets, insurance, processing of documents at the Guyana Revenue Authority and market access to Caribbean markets were raised. The latter has to do with the issue of Caribbean countries opening their markets to Guyanese exports.At the meeting on behalf of the Ministry of Agriculture were Nizam Hassan,Andre Branch Dolphins Jersey, General Manager of the Guyana Marketing Corporation and Dr. Elizabeth Ramlall, Director, Agricultural Sector Development Unit. Also in attendance was R.K. Sharma, Programme Co-ordinator of Support for Competitiveness Programme,Cheap Sports Jerseys, Ministry of Tourism Industry & Commerce and Mahendra Satram, Senior Manager, Wharf and Warehouse,Artemi Panarin Jersey, Guyana Revenue Authority.The Guyana Non-Traditional Agricultural Exporters Association was represented by Doodnauth Singh,Brad Richards Red Wings Jersey, President, and other members of its executive. For the shipping sector were Ian Danjou of the Shipping Association of Guyana, Glen Khan of Laparkan, Orin Walton of LIAT,Ameer Hassan of Total Logistics, Valdina Andrews of NM Services Ltd and Clayton Charles of Demerara Shipping Co. Ltd.According to the Ministry and the exporters’ association yesterday in a joint statement, exporters were updated on its programme for agricultural diversification and the venture to build a fresh produce packaging facility at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri,NFL Jerseys Cheap China, and the procurement of plastic crates to assist in minimizing post-harvest losses and the refrigerated facilities available at the packaging facilities.Sharma also updated the meeting on the Matching Grants Initiative of the Government’s Support for Competitiveness Programme. |
