– President Ramotar says “very soon”Two multi-million dollar call centers announced to be constructed in Guyana are yet to have official dates set for their appearance. However, President Donald Ramotar has promised the centers’ materialization “very soon”.Speaking at an event last week, Ramotar said his Administration is looking towards the construction of infrastructure as a means of employing Guyanese citizens.Further, he said,Scott Darling Jersey, the Administration is working to “put down” a call center at Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo. He added that this call center will hopefully employ about 900 persons. Ramotar said too that,Robert Bortuzzo Jersey, by employing hundreds of persons in the area,Rob Scuderi Jersey, long travel would be removed as an additional stress.Similarly,Andrew Shaw Jersey, Ramotar said the government is also hoping to put another call center at Enmore, East Coast Demerara.Construction for both centers, he said,Artemi Panarin Jersey, will begin “very soon”.“When they [the centers] are finished, they will stimulate other types of economic development for sustained and continuing employment within our society,” Ramotar said.Further,Rene Bourque Jersey, Ramotar emphasised that it was equally important to develop the human resources of Guyana along with the physical infrastructure.“The most important factor for development is our people; and you would have noticed over the years, that apart from the physical infrastructure we have been investing in,Marcus Kruger Jersey, we have also been investing in social infrastructure to give us a more educated and a healthier worker in our society. That is extremely important to couple with the physical infrastructure we are putting in place to help our country move forward and reach the level of a developed country,Pavol Demitra Jersey,” Ramotar said.The plan for the new call centers was made public in January by Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Roger Luncheon during the year’s first post cabinet media briefing. Luncheon had told media operatives that the contracts for the call centers were awarded in late December. He said too,Neal Broten Jersey, that cabinet had granted no objections to the approval for these centers.Luncheon further said the projects fell under the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce. The Tuschen contract is at a cost of $114M while the Enmore center will be for $116M. |
