The farmers unveiled their progress at a ribbon cutting ceremony which displayed the wide variety of produce they have been able to grow since adopting the project.In attendance at the ceremony was CARILED Country Coordinator Dhanraj Singh, Programme Director Alix Yule and Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Norman Whittaker.The programme resulted in the construction of greenhouse structures by farmers in the communities with funding from CARILED and the Small Business Council. These greenhouse structures incorporated mesh walling and roofing, which protects vegetation from extreme weather while providing them the necessary sunlight and rain to grow.Meanwhile, the structures’ interior is sectioned off by long elevated wooden compartments, filled with fertilized soil. The elevated compartments are meant to protect vegetation from pests along with making them less susceptible to flooding.Currently, there are three greenhouses of this type in Canal Polders One and Two.
