A Teachers Training Programme in ICT is set to commence shortly, according to Head of the Presidential Secretariat Dr. Roger Luncheon, yesterday.“Understandably, that decision follows the implementation of the Government strategy of establishing computer labs at all of the secondary schools in Guyana…Logically, the teachers would need to be skilled in the area of ICT to impart this knowledge at the entire secondary school level,” he said.National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD) will be heading this project to enhance teacher’s skills in the ICT sector.NCERD is aiming to train at least 1500 teachers this year to use the computer as a teaching and learning tool.The Ministry of Education, in its 2008-2013 Education Strategic Plan, aims to equip all secondary schools and 50 per cent of primary schools with computer laboratories by 2012The Education Ministry has been facilitating a basic information technology programme to train all teachers in the use of the computer and how to deliver in the classroom.
