However,Hines Ward Steelers Jersey UK, this demonstration was quite different. The majority of those who gathered were attired in black, and unlike previous weeks, the protestors had no placards neither did they chant slogans. This, the coalition’s leader, David Granger said,Franco Harris Steelers Jersey UK, was done to indicate the fact that APNU views this period as a time for mourning.Granger told the media that APNU and its supporters are mourning “the death of democracy in Guyana”. He added that the death of the Tenth Parliament and the trust in the Executive was also being mourned “so it is three in one.”Granger said that the series of announcements that President Donald Ramotar has been making since the beginning of November to Saturday last, gives a clear indication that he intentionally chose to remove democracy from the Republic of GuyanaGranger emphasised that the President cannot recapture the trust that has been lost, “it’s gone; it is too late.”The Opposition leader referred to the President as “the author of mischief” and said that all concerns as to the state of affairs in Guyana should be addressed to him. Granger was at the time referring to sentiments expressed by the Private Sector Commission (PSC) last week. The Commission had called for all political parties to address the issues facing Guyana,Jordy Nelson Packers Jersey UK, including the prorogation of Parliament,Greg Lloyd Steelers Jersey UK, in a mature manner. The body asked that the Opposition and the government to meet each other halfway. But Granger said yesterday, that the government never showed an interest in that kind of agreement. He added that the PSC needs to ask the President why he did not assent to all the Bills that the Commission made reference to in its call for compromise. The Opposition leader said that “the fault lies entirely with President Ramotar as he had an agenda from the beginning of the year,Nick Perry Packers Jersey UK, doing everything with intent to fully destroy democracy”.Granger told the media that President Ramotar had three years of troubled tenure. He said that the effects of that tenure are no parliament and no democracy “he erased everything,Brett Favre Packers Jersey UK, it’s just a dictatorship”.APNU has been protesting for just over two months outside the President’s Office. Initially geared towards putting pressure on the President to name a date for the 20 years’ overdue Local Government Elections, but after the President prorogued the Parliament on November 10,Robert Alford Falcons Jersey UK, the aim of the protest was redirected. The call is now for the return of democracy.APNU executive members such as Rupert Roopnaraine, Ronald Bulkan,Troy Polamalu Steelers Jersey UK, George Norton, Winston Felix,Ernie Stautner Steelers Jersey UK, Ernest Elliot, Christopher Jones, Annette Ferguson, and Lance Carberry were among those who protested with the opposition leader yesterday.Photo saved as: protest 2Caption; A section of the protestors outside the Office of the President yesterday |
