St. John’s Antigua – Two men who beat up a police officer for intervening in a stone-throwing dispute were on Wednesday hauled before the court.Eighteen-year-old Oshane Oraine Thomas of Jamaica and 20-year-old Godfrey Anthony McCallum of Guyana were charged with battery on a police officer,Tony Esposito Jersey, being armed with an offensive weapon and throwing missiles.A police report states the two men were involved in an argument with each other at the Urlings Fishing Complex and both parties started throwing stones at each other. When an officer tried to quell the dispute,Mike Gartner Jersey, both men turned on him and began beating him.The officer managed to escape with only an injury over his right eye and the two youths were later arrested and charged with the offences.Defence attorney for Thomas,Brandon Saad Jersey, Lawrence Daniel,Mikael Granlund Jersey, applied for bail for his client who he said recently completed secondary school and signed up for the Antigua & Barbuda Institute of Continuing Education.Thomas,Brian Elliott Jersey, who had been residing in Antigua for some time,ED Belfour Jersey, has legal status until November 29. His bail was set at $7,500 and conditions required $500 deposit,Stan Mikita Jersey, on Antiguan surety. He has to surrender all travel documents to the court and report to the Bolans Police Station three times weekly.However,Marian Hossa Jersey, McCallum was not so lucky. He was remanded to prison since he had been residing in the country without legal status since July 30,Dino Ciccarelli Jersey, 2009.The duo will reappear on October 10 to answer the charges. |
