The Ministry of Local Government and Regional Development implemented the Caribbean Local Economic Development (CARILED) programme, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, with in-kind contributions, from Caribbean and Commonwealth countries.The six-year programme,Bryan Bickell Jersey, launched in May 2012, is a project under the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) and targets the development of business-friendly environments in which micro-small and medium-sized enterprises can prosper.These include the Tapakuma Women’s Project,Valeri Nichushkin Jersey, the Canal Polders Green Initiative and the Mara Agricultural Enhancement Project, which were all successfully completed, while the Friendship Swine Development Project is 95% complete, and will be fully implemented this month.Under the CARILED programme,Artem Anisimov Jersey, 29 Local Government personnel also received training in Local Economic Development,Scott Gomez Jersey, while 61 participants benefited from local exchange of knowledge and local economic development practices, as well as two studies,Erik Gustafsson Jersey, which were completed in identifying improvement on women in business and access to micro financing.In addition, 50 Neighbourhood Democratic Councils across Regions 2,Johnny Gaudreau Team North America Jersey, 3, 4 and 6 received training and completed funding packages, with the necessary tools and materials for increased access to finance. Also 34 Local Government personnel, from those same regions received training in basic internet application, by means of electronic communication,Matt Dumba Jersey, in order to locate and source funding for CARILED.CARILED, with its focus on local economic development,Stan Mikita Jersey, is aimed at identifying potential leaders and providing opportunities for them to access various kinds of skill, acquire knowledge and gain experience,Ales Hemsky Jersey, while allowing them to develop project proposals, with a focus on agriculture and entrepreneurial activities, so that they can earn an income. |
