The Caribbean Association of National Telecommunication Organisation (CANTO) held its third annual Telecommunication Information and Society Day – Essay Competition under the theme “Protecting Children in Cyberspace”, which saw the second place going to 17-year-old Guyanese, Dennis Heywood.The Richard Ishmael Secondary student was one of the more than 50 entries submitted from nine countries in the Caribbean.The students were invited to write a 600-word essay expressing their views on the pros and cons of Cyberspace, with emphasis on the protection of children over the internet. Heywood received a notebook computer plus US$500, while first place winner Gabriela Grant, a student of Queen’s College, Barbados, received a trip for two to attend CANTO 2009 recently held in Trinidad and Tobago, a notebook computer plus US $1,Jerseys NFL Wholesale,000.Third and fourth places went to St. Kitts and Dominica respectively.The essays were judged on preset criteria based on educational and technical merit, creativity, organisation and mechanics. |
