Caribbean Stats Day 2012…Under the theme “Working together to improve statistics in the twenty-first century and beyond,” Caribbean Statistics Day 2012 will be observed next Monday,Neftali Feliz Jersey, October 15,Ryan Vogelsong Jersey, with a number of activities to highlight the importance of statistics in national and regional development.The observance coincides with that of World Statistics Day.The CARICOM Secretariat’s Regional Statistics Programme has planned an Inter-Schools Quiz Competition as part of a series of activities. The event will be held among four primary schools – J.E Burnham, Agricola,Arizona Diamondbacks Jorge De La Rosa Jersey, North Georgetown and Winfer Gardens, as well as four secondary schools – Brickdam,Oakland Athletics Santiago Casilla Jersey, Saint Stanislaus College,Atlanta Braves Jamie Garcia Jersey, South Ruimveldt and Tutorial High School. A prize-giving ceremony for the winners will be held on October 15.Given the significance of statistics to the development agenda in Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Member States,Jimmy Rollins Jersey, this year’s celebration promises to heighten awareness of statistics among users,Houston Astros Brian McCann Jersey, suppliers and producers.A website replete with advocacy materials, country profiles,San Diego Padres Erick Aybar Jersey, and information emanating from regional statistics research; a special newsletter; a seminar are among the other activities planned.The CARICOM Secretariat Regional Statistics Programme has expressed that it hopes the activities will also “foster and maintain increased collaboration among data producing and statistical units in the public sector. It is envisaged that this kind of collaboration will forge new partnerships in the development of statistics and attract increased investments to reposition and restructure statistical agencies”.CARICOM Member States have planned their own activities to improve awareness of statistics including exhibitions,Matt Wieters Jersey, panel discussions and seminars. |
