Under the theme “Working for the Elderly, Celebrating their contributions to Guyana”, the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security has designated October as the “Month of the Elderly.”The Palms, a geriatric facility funded by the Government, is an institution that provides free services and a shelter for destitute senior citizens residing in Guyana.The facility which has been established since 1874 under the British colonial rule was then called the Alms.
