The Lions Club of Central Demerara on Sunday fêted in excess of 400 children who reside in areas on the East Bank of Demerara,Fernando Rodney Jersey, as part of its efforts to unleash the spirit of Christmas and in keeping with its motto, ‘We care’.Children of the Diamond Special Needs School and scores who attend schools along the East Bank of Demerara came out in their numbers to be pampered by the members of the humanitarian entity.Earlier,Deion Jones Falcons Jersey, a party was held by the Lions at the Special Needs School before the festive activities were diverted to the Central Lions Den at Mocha, East Bank Demerara.It was at this location that the children turned out in their numbers, eager to find out what was in store for them this year.President of the Club, Mr Dwarka Singh, said that Sunday’s activities are regarded as the club’s signature event because they are observed annually.And according to Singh, it has been 40 years since the club has been rendering its service to the areas in which the Club covers.He disclosed that children from as far as Sussex Street in the city and Kuru Kuru on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway were invited to the Christmas fete.They were all afforded goodie bags dsitributed by Santa Claus. And according to club member Wellesley Davis, the programme could not have been a successful reality without the Auxiliary members of the club — primarily the wives of the club members.He explained that the event is intended primarily for the less fortunate children, who take the opportunity to sing and dance and have a fun-filled time.
