He made reference to Courts, which opened a distribution centre at Eccles, Massy Guyana and even the emergence of True Value supermarket.Also pleasing to him was that the Chamber was interacting with many persons who sought advice about Guyana’s potential for viable investment.“We clearly live in potentially exciting times. So what all this means is that Guyana has become a significant interest,” the GCCI President remarked.Among many future prospects, he remains hopeful of Guyana’s transition to utilizing sustainable energy, and stressed that it would boost the development of the country.While Dr. Giles in her address reminded that the evening was an opportunity to both celebrate and reflect upon the contributions that members of the business community made towards the growth of Guyana’s economy, she too spoke at length about the role and importance of energy and how it has accelerated the development of her homeland, Canada.Smart companies, she said, understand one simple truth: sustainability equals innovation. On that note the Canadian High Commissioner congratulated all awardees who truly understand, and embody this truth.Dr. Singh, on the other hand, resisted the temptation to speak on the seemingly common theme of sustainable energy in the form of the Amaila Falls Hydro Project. Instead, he complimented the awardees and alluded to the fact that politicians need to foster better relationships.He lauded the GCCI for its distinguished representation of the business interests in Guyana over 120 years, and reminded the awardees of the abundance of examples of firms that started with very modest beginnings, and emerged to be towering giants of commercial and industrial activities in Guyana.Following the Minister’s remarks was the distribution of awards. The Media award for outstandingCEO of Modern Industries Limited, Hemraj Kissoon, receives the Long Service Award from APNU parliamentarian, Carl Greenidgecoverage of the business community and work of the Chamber of Commerce was presented to Stabroek News, while Chartered Accountant Christopher Ram received the Chamber Award for his exceptional legal work, mostly pro bono, for the business community and the Chamber.The Award of Achievement (Posthumous) was received by the widow of the late Ronald Webster for business achievements in the Manufacturing and Paper Recycling Industry.The recently rebranded,Jerseys NFL Wholesale, Massy Guyana Limited was awarded the GCCI’s Large Business of the Year Award for its good performance in the areas of financial growth, customer satisfaction, internal processes improvements, employee relations, development and corporate citizenship. The New Guyana School secured the Small Business Award of the year. China Trading Corporation’s administrator, Jason Wang received the Young Business Executive Award while the Public Service Award of Excellence was copped by the Government’s Analyst Food and Drug Department. The Corporate Citizenship Award went to Republic Bank Limited.Gordon Lyken of Lyken’s Funeral Parlour received the Lifetime Achievement Award while the Innovation Award was secured by Sterling Products Limited.Modern Industries Limited copped the Long Service Award while another Award was presented to Patrick Sooklall of Impressions and the President’s Award was given to Camex Restaurant Incorporated.
