‘Our fears have been confirmed’- Mark Archer By Abena RockcliffeAs the new government gets the transformational show on the road, a sub-squad of the team that hasAPNU’s Mark Archerbeen set up to oversee the transfer of state assets yesterday met with the bosses of Guyana Chronicle, the National Communications Network (NCN) and the Government Information Agency (GINA).The team was made up of three members of A Partnership for National Unity and Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) coalition—Imran Khan, Cathy Hughes and Mark Archer. That team met with Michael Gordon of Guyana Chronicle, Molly Rampersaud-Hassan of NCN and Neaz Subhan of GINA.During a telephone interview, Archer, APNU’s Communications Director, refused to confirm or deny reports that the team has been informed of ghost employees on the payroll of one of the agencies. He would only say that many of the things that the APNU and AFC had suspected seems to be correct so indeed “our fears have been confirmed.”Archer said what is clear is that many of the persons heading the agencies are professionals. But,Deion Sanders Falcons Jersey, they may have been compromised by the past administration,Marlon Humphrey Jersey, “…of course those things were confirmed.”Archer said that the focus of yesterday’s meeting,Andre Branch Dolphins Jersey, the first of many, was to inform employees that there will be no mass firing. However, he said that they were put on notice that the new government will be expecting full professionalism.Archer said that President David Granger wants a clear message to be sent that there is nothing to fear at this point but also wants workers to know that things cannot continue in the same vein. With regard to termination of employment, Archer said that it is not his decision to make but “we areChronicle General Manager, Michael Gordonnot on a firing mission, we are still in transition.” However, he indicated that he has to submit a report to the acting Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Joseph Harmon who will then communicate with President Granger and decisions will be made thereon.“So, yes the heads will remain heads unless the President so chooses to have them replaced after seeing the report,” said Archer.Asked about how they intend to deal with persons within the respective agencies who are not suited for the job but remain there based on political affiliation and those who openly campaigned for the People’s Progressive Party, Archer said that that too is yet to be decided. He said that very soon, the team will make another visit “and do not want to poison the well… I do not want people to think they cannot talk to me. It is too soon to answer some of your questions,” said Archer. In May of last year, Molly Rampersaud-Hassan was appointed the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NCN.  The 36-year-old previously worked at Marketing Director of Unicomer, at its Courts and Lucky Dollar franchises in Guyana. She took over from Michael Gordon who was temporarily placed in that position subsequent to the resignation of Mohamed ‘Fuzzy’ Sattaur.NCN, like the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) had found itself being probed for financial irregularities. On the part of NCN, one area of irregularity was traced back to GT&T and involved millions of dollars in advertisements and production costs.Sattaur resigned later the very month. The company’s Programme Manager, Martin Goolsarran who had admitted that he had deposited the payment cheque from (GT&T) into his personal account,Artemi Panarin Jersey, was fired.Gordon replaced Sattaur while Wendy Hermonstine replaced Goolsarran. While Hermonstine remains,Throwback Jerseys, Gordon was sent to head the Chronicle newspaper.President Granger, while he was Leader of the Opposition had told media operatives that if the National Communications Network (NCN) and the Government Information Agency (GINA) does not pull up their proverbial socks, budgetary allocations set aside for both agencies will be in jeopardy. The opposition had on many occasions cut the budgetary allocation for these agencies. He had explained that his party’s move to instigate budget cuts is driven by principles. He said that should there be no changes at NCN and GINA,Cheap Sports Jerseys, as it relates to impartial media coverage, APNU’s axe will fall on allocation set aside for both agencies.“Our cuts are driven by principles and the principle is that state funds must serve the interest of the people of this country and not one set of people and not one political party or one particular group. So these are not reckless cuts, these are carefully discussed,” Granger said.Based on Archer’s utterances during yesterday’s interview, it is clear that NCN and GINA will see changes for the better under the new administration.
