A 47-year-old man who pleaded guilty to a common assault charge was on Monday sentenced to six months imprisonment by Magistrate Judy Latchman.Shamal ShivnarineThe Prosecution’s case which was presented by Sergeant Vishnu Hunt at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court detailed that on January 6, Shamal Shivnarine unlawfully assaulted his ex-girlfriend at Sandy Babb Street, Kitty.Hunt during the court hearing explained that the two had a relationship, but it had ended some time ago. On the day in question, he said,Chile Soccer Jersey, Shivnarine met the woman at Sandy Babb Street and confronted her.Reports indicate that he told her “I can’t forget what you did to me. I was a prisoner for six months.” He then dealt her several cuffs and slaps about her body, the Prosecutor said.However, the convicted man had a different story to tell. He said that he approached the woman to ask her for his driver’s licence but she used a knife and cut him on his mouth.He argued that “I push her down, I didn’t assault her.”Shivnarine pleaded with the court to not send him to prison because according to him “People does beat yuh up in jail and only reason I come out is because a man help me out.”During the hearing, the Magistrate asked about the victim’s medical report and the Prosecutor indicated that there were no marks of violence recorded by the medical doctor. |
