The mother of seven was also slashed to the face, while her attacker fled. She succumbed last Thursday at the Georgetown Public Hospital and was laid to rest yesterday.A post mortem revealed that the cause of death was peritonitis (sepsis) due to stab wounds.The alleged killer is a ‘C’ Field,Alex Bregman Jersey, Sophia resident with whom Chanderpaul started a relationship about two years ago.  He lived a short distance from the house where Chanderpaul and her family resided. Mr. De Florimonte said that Chanderpaul would repeatedly leave the couple’s home to live with the suspect, despite suffering repeated abuse at his hands.The woman’s 13-year-old daughter had told Kaieteur News that she and her mother had just exited a bus in ‘C’ Field, Sophia at around 19:00 hrs on October 22, when the suspect, who was armed with a knife, ran out of a shop and confronted her mother.According to the daughter, the man said, ‘Look how long I want to jook yuh and kill yuh,’ before stabbing her mother and slashing her face. She said that her mother collapsed while her attacker fled. The girl said that she ran home and alerted relatives, who took her mother by taxi to the hospital. She was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit, but subsequently took her own discharge. But relatives had Chanderpaul readmitted after her condition worsened. She died shortly after.The suspect was previously placed on a bond after stabbing De Florimonte and Chanderpaul. He was also placed on bail for assaulting Chanderpaul.
