Museums in Guyana over the past week joined with thousands of others around the world in celebrating International Museum Day under the theme: Museums (Memory + Creativity) = Social Change.International Museum Day has been celebrated worldwide on or around May 17,Simon Mignolet Jersey, since 1977 to display the richness of historical heritage,Memphis Depay Jersey, preserved and displayed by museums,Dani Alves Jersey, everywhere and to encourage public awareness of the role of museums in the development of society.Old Man Paapie interacts with children who visited the exhibition and showed keen interest in ancestral artifacts. Looking on is Prime Minister Sam Hinds who declared the exhibition open.The local observances lasted from May 17 to May 23 and were highlighted by an exhibition on the lawns of the National Museum displaying exhibits from local institutions such as the National Museum, the African Museum, the Cheddi Jagan Research Centre,Yaya Toure Jersey, the Walter Roth Museum of Anthropology and the National Library,Simon Mignolet Liverpool Jersey, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA),Memphis Depay Manchester Jersey, Administrator at the National Museum Ms. Priya Singh disclosed.Gizmos and Gadgets and Royal Castle, two well known local businesses,Custom Chelsea Jersey, also participated. So too did the popular Michael Khan in his role as the irrepressible Old Man Paapie and his assistant, Natasha Azeez.Singh said that exhibition was well attended particularly by children who travelled to the lawns of the Museum from their various schools in Georgetown and along the coast. |
