Akeem Roberts who was indicted for the murder of Shane George earlier this year has been committed to stand trial in the next session of the Demerara Criminal assizes at the Supreme Court by Magistrate Faith Mc Gusty.The Magistrate made the ruling yesterday and closed the Preliminary Inquiry (PI) against the 18-year-old accused.Roberts’ Attorney Mark Waldron told the court that the issue of self defense is presented in case as the two parties involved had been engaged in a fight. However the lawyer said that he accepts the Magistrate’s ruling.The Magistrate also told the accused that due to the nature of the offence he will not be admitted to bail.Roberts was 17-years-old when he allegedly stabbed his classmate, a St. George’s High School student Shane George several times about the body.George of 144 Jasmine Lane, Roxanne Burnham Gardens, Georgetown was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.The stabbing reportedly occurred in front of the Morgan Learning Centre in John Street and Stone Avenue,Josh Hart Villanova Jersey, Campbellville.The suspect (Roberts) was nabbed at the scene by police with what was described by witnesses as a “long kitchen knife” The incident reportedly stemmed from an argument over “brand name |
