NEW AMSTERDAM, BERBICE – An additional $125 million is to be invested in the development of East Berbice /Corentyne.The Office of the President, through the Ministry of Finance, would be spending some $75 million to carry out work on miscellaneous roads in Region Six.These were not provided for in the 2008 Regional Budget and, as such, were catered for after the proposal for the budget was submitted.A request was made to the Ministry of Finance earlier this year and the approval was given in June.The roads are at Manchester, Bloomfield, Whim, Lancaster,Rick Wild Indians Jersey, Crabwood Creek,Jerseys From China Online, Number Fifty-Three Village,Jerseys From China, Fyrish, Gibraltar, West and East Canje.The National Drainage and Irrigation Authority would spend some $50 million to carry out additional work on the drainage and irrigation system.According to Region Six Chairman Zulfikar Mustapha, the sum would be used to execute work on three outfall channels on the Corentyne. This is to assist in minimizing the possibility of flooding as the rainy season continues.For the outfall channel at Number Forty-Three Village, the cost of the job is yet to be determined. However, the administration estimates some $15 million. Six million dollars goes to the Adventure outfall, and $4 million to Eversham.The remainder, according to the Regional Chairman, would be used to restructure the Alness sluice, and other minor work would be carried out in other areas.These disclosures were made during the Region Six Democratic Council’s mid-year press briefing last week.In March Mr. Mustapha presented a $261 million budget for the capital expenditure programme.Under the Capital Expenditure this year, $9 million would go to Regional Administration and Finance, Agriculture $89 million, Public Works $85 million, Education $44 million and Health Services $35 million.Of the $89 million for agriculture, the Regional Administration would be spending $82 million on drainage and irrigation.The $85 million budgetary allowance for the Public Works sector is to be used on the construction of bridges, to upgrade community roads,Adam Duvall Reds Jersey, and on land development,Cheap Jerseys From China, mainly to enhance existing housing schemes.
