– Clinical SpecialistUnless intervening measures are engaged, most of a country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) can be consumed in the delivery of health care. This notion was recently amplified by Perennial Dialysis Specialist, Dave Oliver, as he commented on the high cost of some health care services, such as the availability of dialysis and transplantation operations that are currently being offered to renal failure patients here in Guyana.Oliver, along with a team from the Walter Reed Medical Centre of Washington D.C.,Torry Holt Rams Jersey, headed by Kidney Surgeon Dr. Rahul Jindal, recently visited the West Coast Demerara area of Cornelia Ida to promote the need for education with a view to reducing the impact of chronic illnesses.According to Oliver “the government certainly can’t afford to finance everyone to get access to things like dialysis because it is expensive, not to mention the very expensive health care that requires the personnel and facilities, water treatment and other things.”It is for this reason, he added, that there is a crucial need for education programmes aimed at raising awareness among members of the society to help safeguard their health.Through a strategic programme called the Sevak Zara Health Project, funded by United States-based Philanthropist, George Subraj, the educating initiative was introduced a few weeks ago with the support of the Saraswati Vidya Niketan (SVN) School at Cornelia Ida.“My personal benchmark is that we leave here and are no longer needed and Guyana’s health system can see the value added eventually. We can’t force people to change their lifestyles but once they are educated, spending money in health care will be reduced, because people will make a change in their lifestyles,” said an optimistic Oliver. However, he pointed out that unless efforts are made to first identify the existing challenges,Jerseys NFL Wholesale China Online, measures cannot be implemented to create a much needed change in individuals’ attitudes and by extension, reduce the pressure on the health system.Clinical Specialist,T. J. Watt Jersey, Dave Oliver“We have realised that we can’t fix things if we don’t know what is really broken. If there is an opportunity for education, then prevention is possible by stopping something before it even occurs. If diseases like diabetes are allowed to progress it can create even more health problems,” Oliver categorically asserted.Speaking specifically to the issue of kidney failure, he related that while there are varying ways that can be used to address the disease, prevention should be placed at the pinnacle of intervening measures. Prevention awareness,Donnie Shell Steelers Jersey, according to him, is in fact the least expensive alternative,Julian Weigl Jersey, which includes being knowledgeable about one’s blood pressure, blood sugar and diet.“Being aware of these factors is very important for folks who may or do have some signs of kidney failure.”Taking precautionary measures such as pressure screens and the use of necessary medications are regarded as relatively inexpensive means of addressing renal failure too.Oliver pointed to the fact that high blood pressure is known to damage virtually every organ in the body, with the most visible effect being kidney failure,Cheap NFL Jerseys, heart conditions and vision problems.Given the impact that a high blood sugar level can have on an individual with diabetes, Oliver said that it is especially important for “diabetics to avoid foods that are high in concentrated sugar which can damage many organs, especially the kidney, which can help to push the pressure up… thus you need to control the foods.”And not only foods high in sugar could pose a threat to persons with diabetes, as according to Oliver,San Diego Padres Luis Sardinas Jersey, too much salt can also be dangerous.Oliver, who renders his service to Guyana on a voluntary basis, has been contributing to the kidney transplant programme at the privately-operated Balwant Singh Hospital. His efforts include training of health workers and according to him, “my goal is to make my needed presence obsolete. I would like to know that the few staff members I train can eventually take over my duties.”He asserted that Guyana is responding well to the hi-tech services offered and “with several health facilities seeking to compete to spend the big money, the big results are going to be down at the low end with people gaining the knowledge to live a better life.”With initiatives such as the Sevak Project, Oliver said that efforts can be made to point out where the biggest health challenges are with a view of having the Government step in at an opportune time and allocate resources to foster prevention.Through an education outreach which will serve to detect what are the existing health issues, Oliver posited that “we would be able to report the number of cases we find and give the government actual numbers, and they in turn can deal with the situation, even with the help of private people who wish to assist.”“It is hard work at the beginning to look at the numbers and then ask what they mean. It is equally challenging to do something and then wait to see if those numbers change for the better or the worse, but the interesting part is that at the end of the day it is fairly inexpensive and will help to guide Government’s action,” said a confident Oliver. The result of the ongoing project is expected to generate interest which will be recognised in other countries and even emulated, allowing for the saving of “previous health care dollars” which Oliver insists could be diverted to education or other sectors.“We can simply educate our children and they can take that information home to their parents and sometimes that passive education, which costs nothing, is the goal that we really need to be aiming for.”
