Given their desire to improve the lives of people one community at a time, members of the Brooklyn-based Restoration Temple Assembly of God (AOG) youth department have been conducting a series of neighbourhood outreach exercises.The 25-member team headed by Minister Shawn Cummings, his wife Esther, and Warren Figueira, have since conducted massive programmes at Mocha, East Bank Demerara and Ann’s Grove, East Coast Demerara.The outreach exercises are aimed at improving the lives of people both physically and spiritually. According to Mrs. Cummings, the group has sponsored the Vacation Bible School (VBS) programmes for at least 500 children from various churches in the village.Last weekend, the group held a fair and concert in the neighbourhood, where they ministered and entertained members of the community, through music and drama.The fair and concert also featured live entertainment (steel pans) Weapons Of Praise (WOP) singers, Radical Youth Acting for Christ (RYAC), face paintings,  a bouncy house and photo booth .Additionally, patrons received donations of back-to-school items, toys and toiletries from the Restoration Temple team.“It was a great opportunity for us to give back as well as minister to the community,” Mrs. Cummings saidShe noted that most persons in the team opted to be a part of the outreach programme rather enjoy than the entire summer vacation in the US.“Some of the kids are of Guyanese parentage and some of Jamaican heritage, so it was great opportunity for them to experience the culture here. They are being impacted as they seek to impact the lives of others,” she added.Earlier this week, the youth group visited Joshua House and Bless the Children Orphanage. There, the team also distributed school items, toiletries, toys and other necessities to the children.Asked what is most satisfying about the trip to Guyana, members of the team related that they are most satisfied knowing that they are doing the Lord’s work and helping build the bonds in communities. Ruthann Small noted that she enjoyed the visit to the orphanage since the experience made her especially grateful for her own life.The youth group is currently involved in outreach at the Ann’s Grove Market area.  Over the years,Marcelo Diaz Chile Jersey, the church group has conducted outreach work in various parts of the world including Ghana, Suriname, Haiti, Suriname and Guyana.Last week, the Restoration Temple (AOG) Church, teamed up with Raphael Ministry and Southampton New York and sponsored medical supplies for a team comprising of local and overseas doctors, nurses, medical students and volunteers.The group collaborated to offer health services to Guyanese through medical outreaches. Together, the practitioners attended to over 400 patients in four communities within Region Four.
