To the charge, Singh pleaded guilty and was sentenced to four years in prison. The convict made his appearance before Magistrate Leslie Sobers. The charge stated that last Saturday (February 11) at the Timehri prison he had in his possession 10 grams of cannabis. The court was told that on the day in question, Singh was among prisoners who were under supervision doing some work at a scrap metal yard. When the inmates returned to the prison they were each searched and Singh was found with the cannabis hidden in his socks. The accused was told of the offence, handed over to the police and charged. Before being sentenced, the Magistrate asked Singh if he had anything to say and all he asked was that the court be lenient with him. |
