Government has been making significant strides in its efforts to modernise the aviation sector in Guyana. One major accomplishment has been the accreditation of the Ogle Airport Incorporated as an international airport this year.Anthony Mekdeci,Authentic Michael Jordan Bulls Jersey, First Vice President/ Treasurer,Reggie Sanders Reds Jersey, Aircraft Owners Association of Guyana Inc,Taywan Taylor Jersey, recently announced that construction of 4000-foot runway is in progress and will be completed by late 2010. The runway expansion is the second phase of the development project undertaken by Government to improve the standards of the airport to international quality.The first phase had entailed the mandatory safety improvements required by the International Civil Aviation Organization and included a new 2,500 foot runway parallel to the existing runway,Lance Alworth Chargers Jersey, a new terminal facility, development of the hard-standing aircraft taxi and parking areas,John Johnson Jersey, new traffic control and health and fire services.Recently,Kenta Maeda Jersey, top officials from LIAT visited the entity and indicated their interest in being the airport’s first regional carrier. This will be realized as soon as the airport is functional in that capacity and Mekdeci is optimistic that the airport will do all it can to be prepared to accommodate it. The development project which costs 1.5 million euros has been funded by the European Union through the 9th European Development Fund.Dr. Edwin Carrington,Reuben Foster 49ers Jersey, Secretary General, CARICOM who acted as a conduit for Guyana to obtain the funding for the project had indicated that the establishment of the Ogle Airport Incorporated as an international airport will not only benefit Guyana but the Caribbean and Latin American countries.These benefits include improved intra-Caribbean transport, facilitation of transport between Caribbean and Latin American countries, the facilitation of CARICOM governance, the co-mingling of Caribbean people and the promotion of multi-destination tourism.
