Toshao of Orealla Village in Region Six,Alex Anzalone Jersey, Floyd Edwards, says that the Council is considering taking resident Carl Peneux to court for unfounded and malicious allegations against the Village Council.Peneux was quoted recently in the Kaieteur News as stating that since Edwards was elected in April 2012 there have been several imbalances and discrepancies in the financial reports.He also charged Edwards with several other acts of misappropriation of the Council’s funds. These too were published.Peneux is said to have collected the signatures of 140 residents of Orealla for a petition calling for the removal of Edwards from his position as Head of the Village Council.Yesterday Edwards said that Peneux’s allegations were due to   bitterness because he lost the elections for Toshao in 2012.“He ran against me for Toshao in April 2012. I won the elections by two-thirds of the votes. He lost. He is a bad loser. This, I believe, is the real motive behind the lies that he is spreading about the Council.”Edwards said that the allegations by Peneux had been made even before the elections in April 2012.“The auditors came and found no wrongdoing. After the elections, Peneux continued with his slander. The auditors came again and found no wrongdoing. ““The Orealla Village Council is probably the first Village Council in Guyana where the records and accounts were audited twice in four months.”He said that the Council allowed Peneux himself to examine the records and he could not point to anything irregular but he continued with his slander.Edwards said that the Council is looking forward to another audit which would be the fourth audit when a team from the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs visits Orealla next week.“The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs has had two independent audits in Orealla Village and found no wrongdoing. We have no problem with another one,” he said.He said that the Council in the meanwhile, will seek legal advice on how they can deter Peneux from making malicious and unfounded allegations aimed at giving the Council a bad name.
