Although there have been reports of a deliberate ‘sick out’ of nurses at the Region Three West Demerara Regional Hospital, the Guyana Public Service Union [GPSU] has neither confirmed nor denied this state of affairs.According to GPSU’s Industrial Relations Officer, Jermaine Hermanstyne, “I am not aware,” when questioned of the reported ‘sick out’. He however said, “What I will say is that for the nurses who are sick, we from a Union perspective wish them a speedy recovery.”There are reports that the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation will be engaging in similar industrial action from tomorrow, a move that is intended as retaliation for failed talks for a higher increase for public servants.According to Hermanstyne, the Union has been meeting with its members throughout the country,Amara Darboh Jersey, and the response that has been forthcoming has been exactly what was anticipated.
