– murders during armed robberies rise dramatically In keeping with widespread public perception, the Guyana Police Force has recorded an increase of three percent in the number of serious crimes committed by the end of June year when the figures are compared with the same period last year.There were declines in the number of domestic and disorderly murders, while there has been a massive increase in the number of murders during robbery under arms, with a total of nine so far compared with one for the same period last year.There was a significant decline in execution type murders so far this year with the police only recording one.A press release from the Force yesterday revealed that there were 1979 reports of serious crimes up to June month end 2013, compared with 1923 up to the end of June last year.The serious crimes referred to are murder, robbery under arms, robbery with violence, larceny from the person, break and enter and larceny, burglary, rape and kidnapping.According to the police, 60 murders were recorded at the end of June 2013 in comparison to 62 murders for the same period last year.Of the 60 murders this year, 28 were of the disorderly type, nine were committed during armed robberies, there was one execution type, and six were domestic related. The other 16 are so far undetermined.The interior district continues to lead in the number of murders with 21, followed by Georgetown and its environs with 17 and Berbice and East Coast Demerara with eight and seven respectively.The police statistics also revealed that at the end of June 2013, robbery under arms overall has decreased by seven percent,Authentic Avery Bradley Celtics Jersey, with 472 reports compared to 509 for the same period in 2012.The statistics indicate a five percent decrease in the number of armed robberies involving the use of firearms and a 10 percent decrease in armed robberies where instruments other than firearms were used by the perpetrators. |
