As Guyana anxiously awaits an official declaration from the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) of the elections results, preliminary results have shown that Regions Four and 10 were largely responsible in securing the coalition’s slim win in the 2015 General and Regional elections.On Thursday afternoon, GECOM released preliminary results which showed that the APNU+AFC coalition had obtained a narrow lead in the race against the incumbent PPP/C. The results showed that APNU+AFC had earned 206,817 votes while PPP/C had 201,457. This represented a lead of 5,360 votes for the coalition.Of the 10 districts, the coalition secured victory in only four of them. These were regions Four, Seven, Eight and 10.The results showed that the regions which played the biggest impact for the coalition, were Four and 10 while the coalition secured small wins in Regions Seven and Eight. In Region Four, the preliminary results indicated the coalition had obtained 113,534 votes while PPP/C gained 69,914. This represented a 43,620 lead for APNU+AFC.From the 2011 General Elections, Region Four saw the biggest increase in total valid votes cast; in 2011, the total number of valid votes cast had been 156,515 while this year the District recorded 183,949 valid votes, an increase of 27,434.Furthermore,Justin Turner Jersey, in 2011,Eric Rowe Patriots Jersey, APNU won Region Four with 84,828 votes while PPP/C came in second with 60,Wayne Gallman Jersey,851. While the party had 34 votes from region 10 in 2011, this year it secured 90 votes from the Region, earning itself 1.3% (56 of 4,158) of the increase. The PPP/C represented -1.9% of votes when compared to 2011.Following the announcement Thursday of the preliminary results, sections of the country exploded in celebration. The celebrations were particularly lively in Georgetown, where a motorcade was held, and Linden where residents turned out in the streets to exclaim their happiness.
