He said that the 26 –year- old accused is a licensed tobacconist at the Stabroek Market where his family also operates well established businesses.Duke went on to say that the only reason his client was arrested is because he bought a new car. The lawyer continued that the police are alleging that the car was purchased with proceeds from the December heist.Duke also said that his client was arrested in last year for the offence and later released.He added that due to the new vehicle that his client subsequently purchased, he was rearrested and charged.The accused was also no stranger to the Magistrate having appeared before her previously.The Prosecutor did not object to bail but requested a large bail sum for the accused. Nelson was also requested to report to the Criminal Investigations Department at least once weekly. |
