Two policemen attached to the traffic department of the Sparendaam Police Station are facing corruption charges for allegedly receiving a bribe of $30,000.They were both released on $20,000 bail yesterday after an appearance before Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.Police Constables, Marvin Thomas, 24, of Lot 1680 Amelia’s Ward Linden, and Fitzroy Nicholson,Cheap NFL Jerseys, 30, of Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, pleaded not guilty to the joint charge.Mark ThomasFitzroy NicholsonThe charge stated that on September 9, at the Sparendaam Police Station, East Coast Demerara, they obtained $30,000 from Nazeem Khan, as consideration for inducement to drop charges against him for a traffic violation.Attorney, Patrice Henry made a bail application on behalf of the defendants. Henry asked that his clients be released on self bail. The attorney explained that since the allegation arose his clients have been placed under close arrest.In addition, Henry pointed out that the defendants have been fully co-operating with the police investigation by reporting periodically to Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Eve Leary. Henry added that they have not been interdicted.Police Corporal, Deniro Jones presented the prosecution’s case. Jones did not reveal any facts about what transpired on the day in question.Jones had no objections to the defendants being granted pre-trial liberty and told the court that the police file was complete.Thomas and Nicholson will make their next court appearance on October 7, in the Sparendaam Magistrates’ Courts. |
