Alliance For Change Prime Ministerial Candidate, Sheila Holder told Berbicians last Saturday evening that the People’s Progressive Party and the People’s National Congress (PNC) are two peas in the same pod, and the PPP “thrives and survives on the fact that they drive fear into the Indian constituency about the PNC.”She blasted the PNC for not making any attempt “to seek additional votes other than their own constituencies” and getting the cross-over votes. “They [the PNC] are deceiving you,Cheap NFL Jerseys, they cannot win the elections,” she said. She also defended her statements in the National Assembly regarding phantom pensioners and how the ruling party misconstrued the statements. Also addressing Berbicians on a live television programme on Saturday night, was AFC Executive Member and Economist, Sasenarine Singh, who, on the same topic about the phantom pensioners said that the ruling party is “trying to divert the attention of the Guyanese people away from the issue, and that is why they will curse Sheila publicly because she is on to something.”He added that the AFC is of the belief that Guyanese are losing $1.3B a year in “pension losses that are supposed to go to real pensioners, not phantom pensioners”. He noted that an AFC government would stop that $1.3B  from going where it is going and channel it through so that pensioners would get the increase.“We would be launching a forensic audit into the Pensions Register and where the chips fall, they shall fall, and the savings from that investigation will go directly back to the real pensioners and we shall commit to them a pension of $11,000 in the first year of an AFC Government,” Singh added. He recalled a recent study by Red Thread which found that a pensioner still needs about $58,000 a month to survive. He noted that $7,000 pension a month is nothing more than “a PPP joke on the people.”“They have to peddle these lies about Sheila because Sheila is very good at exposing them and they’re always focused on Sheila because she is on top (of) it!”On the laptop programme the government is pursuing, Singh told Berbicians that the laptops were paid for by the taxpayers and “it is no gift from the PPP…your money is buying those laptops”. He appealed to Berbicians to take the laptops since Berbicians are paying for them in taxes. He noted that the AFC will not be doing procurement “like barbershops” but will equip secondary schools with desktop computers. In the 1ST year of AFC government, Singh said that they will have central administrative mechanical workshops in all the regions of Guyana. These workshops, he said, will serve the purposes of taking students from the various technical institutes and university “as an absorber for them to get practical training and a job…to empower them to learn a trade and get paid, and when they feel they’re strong enough, they leave the job to start their own little businesses”.He said that an audit will be done in the Amerindian communities and missions in Guyana to find out what their main produce is and the AFC will assist them in setting up cottage industries to create employment. “The government of the AFC shall provide the transportation link to bring these produce to Georgetown and marketing it”. He challenged the Guyana Marketing Corporation (GMC) to do this to help the Amerindians. The Amerindians, he said, are the poorest people in Guyana. “These people survive on less than $11,000 a month.”Touching on the sugar industry, he stated that the AFC “is not going to close GuySuCo”, a message being spread by the PPP’s “15- member bottom house meetings” in Canje and Corentyne. He said ethanol will be produced and blended with the gasoline which will be used in Guyanese cars, using Brazilian technology “because they [the Brazilians] are masters of it”.He said under an AFC government, cane cutters will get newer jobs at a higher pay, “doing less slave- type work”. “Slavery was abolished a long, long time. We’ve got to stop this slave- type work that the PPP is perpetuating in the cane fields, it has got to stop! We want to incrementally mechanized cane- harvesting in this country. And this is our vision, to move from the subsistence slave- type economy that the PPP likes, because that’s the only way they can keep you in poverty and subservient to them”. “We want to modernize Guyana!”He mentioned that the government only has a small amount of increase for sugar workers each year, even though “there is no shortage of money in this country”. He blamed the small remittances of increase for the sugar workers on “the distribution of the income, which is skewed to the business buddies of the rulers, and there is nothing left but crumbs”…so “the cream is already gone to the business buddies of the rulers”About the Automatic Promotions issue in the school system, Singh chastised the Ministry of Education (MOE) about the “logically crazy” policy, since “they [the MOE] are basically making that child into a functional illiterate”. He noted that the child who has 20 per cent and is promoted will “be useless to the society because he can’t be the best he can be, and will not be able to unleash his potential”. He said that an AFC government will move these kinds of children to Special Schools in the designated regions where they would be given individual attention to learn. “Every child has the capacity to rise…and be a useful citizen to this country”, he noted. On medical health, Singh questioned why PPP leaders do not go to the Georgetown Hospital for medical treatment.“They all go overseas! They make their babies overseas, we got evidence! Why don’t they trust a medical system that they say is so good? They are fooling the people over and over,” he noted.Singh accused the PPP of “the great betrayal of the Cheddi Jagan ideals by saying that Jagan always believed “in sharing the national treasury more equitably among the people”. He called on Berbicians to get in touch with the AFC when they hear stuff on the State media about the AFC. The AFC members urged Berbicians to find out directly from the party what is happening “and not believe the PPP, NCN and the Chronicle”. Singh chastised the monopoly of the government on NCN. “I have friends in Georgetown who tell me that ‘we won’t even look at NCN, because as soon as you turn it on, is a lie’; people say even if they get the Chronicle for toilet paper, they won’t even use it,” he noted.
