Police have launched a massive search for the driver of a car that was involved in a hit-and-run accident, which has left 50-year-old Edward Sylvester Jeffers dead.Jeffers was killed on the spot after he was struck down by the car on Sheriff Street around 03:00 hours yesterday.According to eyewitnesses, Jeffers was hurled several feet into the air and landed a few yards from where he was picked up by the speeding car.His mangled body lay on the roadway until it was taken away by porters from the Lyken Funeral Parlour.Police in a press release said that Jeffers of Plum Park, Sophia was struck down on Sheriff Street in the vicinity of the Campbellville Secondary School by a motorcar, which number is unknown.The police stated that Jeffers was attempting to cross the road from east to west when he was struck down.This newspaper, however, understands that investigators have managed to secure a portion of the car’s licence plate and are trying to piece it together with a view to properly identify the vehicle.In the meantime, they are appealing to the errant driver to turn himself in.Speaking with this newspaper yesterday, Jeffers’s niece, Natasha Ferdinand, recalled that she was asleep when she was aroused around minutes to four by a cousin who informed her that Jeffers was struck down on Sheriff Street and died on the spot.“I was made to understand that the car hit him in front of the Sheriff (Night Club) and his body ended up in front a Chinese shop.
