The Alliance for Change (AFC) will not be participating in the 98th sitting of the National Assembly today. At a press briefing yesterday at the Sidewalk Café, party leader Raphael Trotman, said that the party will not participate in the sitting since it sees the issues slated to be debated as mundane and trivial.Further, Trotman said that issues such as the McKoy affair, Dr. Leslie Ramsammy’s alleged involvement in the purchasing of a spy equipment that was reportedly used by self-confessed drug dealer Roger Khan, and the army’s alleged involvement at Lindo Creek are just some of the issues that should have taken precedence.Trotman said that there are a number of social issues affecting the Guyanese public that the government is turning a blind eye to. He said that the issues on the order paper are just business as usual.Trotman said that he thought good sense would have prevailed in the way matters were going to be debated in the house. According to Trotman there is no ‘wow’ effect that will arouse a desire to participate in a parliament that he dubs a rubber stamp.Trotman said that going to parliament is just a dress rehearsal since the government has already decided on the issues it wants to discuss in the house. Those issues on the order paper, tabling of some reports,Wholesale China Jerseys, the first reading of the Fugitive Offenders (Amendment) Bill and an Amendment to the Rice Factories Amendment Bill could have been done at some other time.“Topical and serious issues engage the attention of the Honourable House.”He questioned the sincerity of the government and said he does not believe anything the current administration articulates. The AFC head referred to the much-touted Freedom of Information Bill and the Broadcast Legislation.Trotman said that he was aghast that these two pieces of legislation did not seem serious enough to be heard at today’s sitting. He added that Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon,Wholesale NFL Jerseys, promised that those would have been heard at that sitting of the Assembly. According to him the Presidential Secretariat continues to lie with impunity to the Guyanese public.Trotman said that the government doesn’t seem bothered by making these public pronouncements and reneging on them. He called this approach a magician’s trick aimed at silencing the populace on these issues.“So there is a national outcry for something and the government says yes this will be done… knowing that there is no serious intention to resolve these issues”. According to Trotman the AFC will not be staying away from the Parliament completely but will be monitoring its developments and will be attending on a case by case basis. The 98th sitting of the National Assembly also coincides with third anniversary of the AFC and the PPPC embroiled in a battle for a regional seat in Region Ten.According to Trotman GECOM conferred that the seat is the AFC’s but the Prime Minister continues to occupy a seat that does not belong to that party. In the meantime Trotman said that the community continues to suffer,Wholesale Jerseys China, with morale low and joblessness at an all time high.Further to the woes of the town, is that it continues to have only one television station that bombards them with government rhetoric day in day out. By this,Cheap China Jerseys, he said, his party is robbed of the opportunity of representing that region the way it should and the impostors continue to deny the community of an alternative to NCN,Cheap Jerseys, which he described as the government mouthpiece.Trotman warned the government that the emotions of Guyanese that are reaching boiling point,Wholesale Jerseys, he opined that if issues of concern to the populace are not addressed he see serious times approaching. He said the list of contentious issues is lengthy and he is at pains to recall a few that were condignly addressed by the ruling administration. He said that the way the government operates is wholly disrespectful to the citizenry. The AFC has followed the approach of the Peoples National Congress Reform (PNCR) who had boycotted the National Assembly on another occasion for similar reasons. |
