He stressed that women hold the nation’s future in their hands.“Women should be enabled to play their full and equal role in the development of their families, communities and the nation as a whole…The NCW must find out what women need and want to enable them to perform their full and equal role in society.”He said that education is the key to women’s full involvement in national development and pledged that a Granger led Administration will provide, “all our girl children equal access to post primary education.” He stressed that the state should provide the social services necessary to enable women to play their full role in society.“More hostels for students, more nurseries for working mothers, transport where necessary to enable children to attend school, more support for the physically challenged.”Gainful employment opportunities for women both urban and rural will be the goal of a Granger led Administration, he promised.“In order to break the cycle of hereditary poverty by providing practical employment for women, the Granger led Administration would ensure the provision of an Agricultural Institute in every Region and that a micro credit agency be established to make available necessary credit to women’s groups as well as individuals in support of their productive efforts.”Speaking on the issue of the retirement age, Granger challenged the women to petition for the extension of the official retirement age to 65 to enable teachers, nurses and other professionals in the public service to be of greater service to the nation while still physically able to do so.Granger told the Convention that women will determine the outcome of the elections in 2011 and it is, therefore, up to the NCW to employ a strategy which will unify itself by ensuring that all of its members return to the fold.He said too that they must build links with other groups and sell, “our message to the women of Guyana while explaining the damage which the PPP/C has done over the years due to the blindness of its leadership.”
