Another batch of Customs officers and officials from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit has been trained in the use of the Itemiser 3.The Itemiser 3 is a trace detector machine which is designed to detect or recognize traces of illegal drugs, explosives and chemicals.The recent training is the second phase in the Counter Terrorism Capacity Building (CTCB) project training programme, and it is aimed at providing officers with the technical knowledge and skills to effectively use the Itemiser 3 and to recognize some of the elements used to construct explosive devices.Officers also benefited from information about the potential dangers of chemicals, drugs and explosives, and steps they should take in the handling of each.The programme, which was facilitated by two senior program advisers of the Canada Service Agency, was held on Monday last at the Customs and Trade Administration training room, Main Street, GeorgetownPhase one of the training was held on March 6th last year, when the Canadian Government, through the Canadian High Commission, donated the $9M machine to the security forces of Guyana.In 2007, Guyana was the last on the list of Caribbean territories to receive the CTCB training; however, this year, Guyana is the first,Cheap Nike Air Max 2018, with five other regional territories to follow. |
