We will no longer tolerate this treatment…that’s how we feel, we feel determined; it’s not that people aren’t emotional, it’s not that people aren’t hurting financially, it’s not that we don’t support the students…we are doing this for the students.“We know what the students deserve in terms of an education and we know that we are not getting it and so this is in part what we are fighting for.”Dr Ifill insisted that the on-going struggle is one that is aimed at realising a living wage and other benefits for workers at the University and for students to be afforded an education that they deserve.ShamefulAnd Dr Ifill, commenting on the need to sustain the industrial action, described as shameful, the Ministry of Labour’s failure to intervene on the workers’ behalf and its move to side with the University Administration to insist that the striking workers return to work before a continuance of negotiations.According to the UGSSA President, “They only got one side of the story and I think it is shameful for the Minister or the Ministry to pronounce on an issue when it hadn’t even spoken to the Unions to get what our take on the industrial situation is.”The industrial action is one being embraced by some 700 employees and according to Dr Ifill, “for such a large number of workers to be ignored and disrespected, it is shameful and certainly more determined efforts must be made to ensure that there is a resolution to this.”According to Dr Ifill, too,Jerseys NFL Wholesale China, neither the Unions nor the workers are to be blamed for the industrial action, since it was the University’s Administration that withdrew itself from negotiations that were on-going at the time.She pointed out that the Administration was negotiating well with the Unions even when it had initially started industrial action in the form of a sit-in.Students’ supportWhile there are some students who have pledged their support for the workers, Dr Ifill said that the Unions are certainly not upset with those who clearly are not.  “There are some students who of course are interested in their own lives; they are interested in completing their degrees, they are interested in completing their courses and we completely understand that, but what we have said to the students is that we want to ensure that you don’t complete a substandard degree.“We want to ensure that the course that you are doing has all the necessary materials to give you effective and proper instruction,” intimated Dr Ifill to this publication.She therefore noted that while the workers understand the concerns of the students, at the same time the Unions are seeking to ensure that the quality of education that is being delivered is one that they deserve.“We also need to ensure that as staff we can live decent lives…We sympathise but our resolve is strong; we urge them (students) to come on board with us, in fact, I would want to suspect that if they came on board with us a resolution would be much sooner rather than if we were to do it alone,” Dr Ifill noted.Indefinitely strikeAlthough she was not prepared to hazard a guess as to how long workers could continue the on-going industrial action, Dr Ifill said that based on the forthcoming response workers are not prepared to return to work until a decent proposal is offered to them.And Dr Ifill is sure that the workers are committed even as she pointed out that in her 16 years of employment at the tertiary institution there has not been such a prolonged strike action.She however,Cheap Jerseys Free Shipping, noted that some older staff members have likened strike action that occurred in 1994 to the on-going one where workers embraced a similar sense of resistance.“I have never been in such an industrial action where people are off the job and could very well lose their pay for the entire month.
