The three Rural Constables attached to the South Turkeyen Community Policing Group who are in police custody, following the severe beating of 41-year old Ronald Roberts, have been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm. They men are expected to appear in court shortly.Roberts, who resides at Lot 24, Industry Front, East Coast Demerara is nursing a broken right hand and several abrasions about his body.Among those that are charged are the Chairman and Treasurer of the South Turkeyen Community Policing Group.Senior police officials had confirmed that they were investigating the incident, which they claim has put a dent in the integrity of the Guyana Police Force on whose behalf the Rural Constables were reportedly operating.Ronald Roberts sustained a broken right hand as a result of the beating. Roberts informed Kaieteur News that it was around 01:30 hours on Thursday last, when he exited his car on Sherriff Street and saw a mini bus slowly approaching him.He said that as the vehicle reached near him, an occupant who was sitting in the front passenger seat dealt him a slap to his face and the vehicle sped away.He (Roberts) then returned to his car and followed the mini bus and managed to intercept them on the Railway Embankment between Sheriff Street and Conversation Tree.According to Roberts, he approached the vehicle with the hope of getting an explanation for the slap, the occupants from the back of the bus came out,jerseys nfl wholesale, and one of them was armed with a cutlass. He indicated that the alleged drunken men had beaten him severely and took possession of his car which was not recovered until the following day.Following a thorough investigation of the matter, the three men, who were taken into custody immediately after the incident, were charged. |
