Three of the four teachers who were sanctioned by the Ministry of Education have stated that they did not err in any way as it relates to dealing with the Neesa Gopaul case. The teachers,Cheap NFL Jerseys China, who spoke with this newspaper, claim they did all in their power as it related to the issue. During an interview yesterday, the teachers stated that they first drew the matter to the attention of the Human Services Ministry as well as the Police, in October 2009.According to the letters which the teachers received, which were seen by this newspaper, “Please be informed that it is concluded that in your conduct…..you failed to display the requisite level of supervisory responsibility in following up on the report and taking the necessary action.”The teachers explained that despite the fact that they even went as far as acting out of their jurisdiction with Neesa Gopaul,Cheap Jerseys, it was their moral duty to the child.“Although I received this letter,Wholesale China Jerseys, it would not deter me in rendering assistance to any other child,Cheap Air Max 95 Sale,” one teacher said. “I am not sure what more the officials expected, I wasn’t even thinking about how much money I spent in gas…as teachers we feel it is our moral responsibility to any student if they come with a plight to us.”The teachers said they did all in their power and it was the other agencies which need to accept the responsibility. According to the teachers, when Neesa Gopaul was first taken to the Ministry in the company of her grandparents, the matter was reported to the Head Teacher of Queen’s College. The Ministry then promised the teachers, nfl jerseys authentic china, as well as the grandparents,Cheap NBA Jerseys, that a letter would be forwarded to the school about the matter. However, follow-ups by the teachers later found that no letter was forwarded to the school. The teachers also said that at no point did the Human Services Ministry forward the information to the Ministry of Education’s Welfare Department.“Whatever happened to the collaboration between Government Agencies…we did all that was in our league and at times we went beyond.”“It was the headteacher who was responsible for submitting a report to the Ministry of Education’s Welfare Department…not us. One year the Ministry of Human Services were dealing with Neesa’s case, what did they do within that year?” one teacher asked. The teachers stressed the fact that the matter was totally out of their hands but still they were trying to determine the teen’s whereabouts.“We don’t have the authority to break down someone’s fence, enter their home and take a child away…the police were dealing with the matter.”“We are preoccupied with curriculum; we are trained for curriculum. We have several other Neesa’s to deal with in school. We are not social workers.”The teachers, responding to why they remained silent all the time, said they did so because they were of the opinion that the Ministry (of Education) was competent enough to protect them.“We remained silent because we thought our ministry was competent enough to do their investigation correctly to exonerate us, but now we have to go out there and represent ourselves.”“Because our silence from the inception meant consent… from the inception if we had come out we would not have been in this position and because they continuously bombarded us, everybody will know the truth…”The teachers said they will not sit back and take the blame for someone else. As it relates to one teacher, she said she was not dealing with the Neesa Gopaul’s case, but she was aware of it. The teacher also pointed to the fact that their union was at no time involved in the investigation, and more so they were not aware that they were being investigated. The teacher said initially they were of the opinion that they were just assisting the Ministry of Human Services with information on the Neesa Gopaul matter.According to the teachers, they first learnt of Neesa’s plight after her classmates voiced their concerns and they started to notice marks of violence about the teen’s body. They said this was also brought to the attention of the Ministry, and photographs were handed over to the Ministry, who did nothing.Four teachers, including the now retired Head Teacher, her deputy and two other senior staff of the school have been issued with letters informing them that they will be debarred from promotion. All of the teachers fingered for discipline have all dedicated in excess of fifteen years to the Education system.
