– after one mistaken for ‘Cobra’Two friends have alleged that they were beaten, terrorised and dumped in a filthy cell on Sunday by gun-toting policemen who mistook one of them for a notorious wanted man known as ‘Cobra.’Colin Jack, a 37-year-old taxi driver, and his friend,Cheap NFL Jerseys, 31-year-old seaman Fabian Levius, said that they were pounced upon by the ranks last Sunday while relaxing with friends near a popular creek on the Soesdyke/Linden Highway.The two men, and a third friend, were then allegedly stomped, kicked and gun-butted, and had weapons pressed to their heads before being placed in a cell at the Timehri Police Station.The men said that although the policemen quickly realised their error, they were forced to remain overnight in the lockups and were only released on Monday afternoon.They alleged that the rank in charge was an Assistant Superintendant, whom they identified by name.Jack and Levius said that their nightmare started some hours after they had journeyed to the highway with two other friends to relax at a creek outside a popular resort.However, after about 50 minutes it began to rain and the group sought shelter in Jack’s car.According to Jack, they were in the car for about five to ten minutes when a man with a gun, who was wearing blue short pants and black top came to his side of the vehicle and said “get out of the car.”“My friend say ‘Doan play, what wrong with you?’ We did not know he was a policeman.”But then about ten armed policemen surrounded the car. “The one (with the short pants) dragged me out of the car and several of them start kicking me. He was then ordered to lie facedown in the wet sand as the beating continued.“They then turn me around and say ‘You is not ‘Cobra? What they does call you?’“I say I don’t have a false name’. One of them had his foot on my neck and he say ‘you ain know we woulda catch you. Yuh cut yuh hair.”“One of them say ‘search he car, look fuh the Tech Nine, it got to be in there.”Fabian Levius and a third male were also placed facedown in the sand and assaulted. They said that a female friend who was with the group was not harassed.The men alleged that at that point they were convinced that they would have been killed.“When you lying facedown  in wet sand, a boot on your neck, a gun at your head, I felt that was it. I start praying,” Levius said.According to Jack, a few off-duty policemen who knew him attempted to tell their colleagues that he was no criminal. However, they were berated by the ranks, who then handcuffed the three friends and took them to the Timehri Police Station. They were allegedly informed that they were under investigation for robbery under arms.But Jack said that soon after arriving at the station, he again met some lawmen who knew him.He was then informed that the incident was a case of mistaken identity. Nevertheless, the three men were detained in a small, filthy police cell.“The lockups was a mess,” Levius recalled. “Rats, roaches, urine, faeces. They treat us as if we were convicted criminals.”Jack said that on Monday, CID ranks took statements from them. They were eventually released at around 14:00 hrs, and were sent to get medical documents regarding their injuries.But the friends said that they are peeved that no one has apologised for the brutality and embarrassment they endured.Because of this, they are contemplating taking some form of legal action against the offending ranks.Commander of ‘A’ Division, Assistant Police Commissioner George Vyphuis, told Kaieteur News yesterday that he was unaware of the incident but would investigate.
